Indian-origin man arrested in Singapore for wearing flag as cape

A 36-year-old Indian-origin man was arrested and jailed in Singapore for two weeks after he was caught wearing the country's flag as a cape and screaming patrons at a coffee shop. The man, identified as Roy Ravi Jaganathan, pleaded guilty to the charge on Thursday for creating nuisance in a public space.

Local police officer Ting Nge Kong  said that on September 5, the man went to the coffee shop wearing a green shirt with a Singapore flag draped over his shoulders and tied around his neck, looking like a cape. One of the persons in the coffee shop called the police and said a man, in a drunk state, was hurling abuses and racist remarks.

The police arrived at the coffee shop after receiving multiple calls from the public and found him still shouting loudly and harassing others.

"He went from table to table shouting loudly and proclaimed that he was God. At times, he ranted incoherently and intentionally lifted up his T-shirt to expose his torso to the patrons," the officer said.

The man was arrested after he failed to listen to the police's advice, asking him to stop yelling.

This is not the first incident, in the last few months, in which the man has landed in trouble. In July, the same person was sentenced to five days in jail  when he was found shouting loudly and making gestures with an umbrella towards another coffee shop.
