Poonam Pandey was heavily criticised for faking her death to raise awareness about cervical cancer.

Model-turned actor Poonam Pandey was slammed by users on social media after she announced on Saturday morning that she was alive and not died because of cervical cancer.

The 32-year-old said in an Instagram video on Saturday that she intended to raise awareness about cervical cancer and hence, faked her demise.

Here are some of the reactions:

Pandey said that unlike other types of the disease, cervical cancer was preventable and could be done so by taking early detection tests and HPV vaccine.

The news of Pandey's death had left her followers shocked and in disbelief and many of them had paid their tributes in the comments section. A few, though, had suspected this to be a marketing gimmick. Pandey was briefly married to filmmaker Sam Bombay in 2020.
