Last month was dominated by the AI rom-com Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya but March seems to offer a buffet of genres to pick from. Whether it is a horror thriller such as Shaitaan or a roller-coaster of comedy and chaos in Madgaon Express, there are plenty of reasons to drop in at the theatres this new month.

Kaagaz 2 (Hindi) – March 1

Satish Kaushik’s last film as an actor sees him play a father fighting a court case to seek justice for his daughter who died in a tragic incident. With able support from actors such as Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta and Darshan Kumaar, this one promises to strike a chord with the common man.

Laapataa Ladies (Hindi) – March 1

Set somewhere in rural India, the film follows what happens when two young brides get lost from a train. The chaos that follows is both messy and funny but in between all that, director Kiran Rao subtly weaves in a social message. Starring Sparsh Srivastava, Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta and Ravi Kishan, the social comedy has managed to impress critics with its subtle humour and performances.

Operation Valentine (Telugu and Hindi) – March 1

The action-thriller is based on the 2019 Pulwama terrorist attack by Pakistan on India and the retaliatory Balakot air strikes by India. The film stars Varun Tej and Manushi Chhillar.

Shaitaan (Hindi) – March 8

The psychological horror film starring Ajay Devgn, R Madhavan and Jyotika in the lead has created quite a stir ever since its trailer was released. Helmed by Vikas Bahl, the trailer shows Madhavan playing the devil incarnate as he controls Devgn’s daughter with his mind.

Kung Fu Panda 4 (English) – March 15

The fourth instalment in the popular Kung Fu Panda franchise will see Po (Jack Black) find and train his successor as the new Dragon Warrior.  There will also be a glimpse of the Furious Five.

Dune: Part two (English) – March 15

The much-anticipated sequel to 2021’s Dune, an adaptation of the 1965 novel Dune by Frank Herbert follows Paul Atreides as he reunites with the Fremen people of the desert planet Arrakis to wage war against House Harkonnen.

Yodha (Hindi) – March 15

Starring Siddharth Malhotra, Raashi Khanna, Ronit Roy and Disha Patani, Yodha is an action-packed thriller with plenty of patriotism thrown in for good measure. Sid plays an Indian Army officer in the film directed by Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha.

Madgaon Express (Hindi) – March 22

The movie marks the directorial debut of actor Kunal Kemmu. The rib-tickling comedy promises a joyride with Pratik Gandhi, Divyendu and Avinash Tiwary, childhood buddies who decide to take a trip to Goa with hilarious consequences.

Swatantra Veer Savarkar (Hindi) – March 22

Actor Randeep Hooda makes his debut as a director with the biopic on the life of freedom fighter and reformer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Sharing his first look as the freedom fighter, Hooda had mentioned, “This is a salute to one of the tallest unsung heroes of India’s struggle for freedom and self-actualisation. I hope I can live up to the challenge of filling such big shoes of a true revolutionary and tell his real story which had been brushed under the carpet for so long.”

Crew (Hindi) – March 29

Starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tabu and Kriti Sanon, this crime-comedy sees the three ladies playing the role of three ‘badass air hostesses’. The teaser of the film has whetted the appetite of viewers who can’t wait to watch the chaos and comedy it promises to unleash.

Do Aur Do Pyaar (Hindi) - March 29

The rom-com stars Vidya Balan, Pratik Gandhi, Ileana D’Cruz and Sendhil Ramamurthy in the lead. In an Instagram post, Balan had shared that the tale of modern relationships will make the audiences laugh and cry in equal measure.
