The 77th British Film Academy Awards (BAFTAs) were held at the Royal Festival Hall in London on Sunday as some of the leading names from the world of movies and entertainment descended in the United Kingdom capital to celebrate some of the best performances of last year.
Prince William attended the awards ceremony without Kate Middleton, who continued to recover after undergoing abdominal surgery in January and is expected to remain away from her public-facing royal duties until April. She was discharged from hospital on January 29.
Prince William, who has been the President of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts since 2010, opted to wear a navy velvet tuxedo jacket with black lapels, that was paired with black trousers, a white shirt and a bow tie. He sat next to Cate Blanchett and also met former England footballer David Beckham at the awards ceremony.
Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" dominated the BAFTAs, winning seven awards including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor.
Cillian Murphy won his first BAFTA for his titular role in "Oppenheimer" and after the victory, he thanked Nolan for "seeing something in me I probably didn't see myself".
Robert Downey Jr. won his first BAFTA in 31 years after beating competition from the likes of Robert De Niro for "Killers of the Flower Moon" and Dominic Sessa for "The Holdovers" among others to win the recognition in the Best Supporting Actor category for his performance in "Oppenheimer".
