Producer Ekta Kapoor has become the first Indian to win an International Emmy Directorate Award. The award honours individuals or organisations for their outstanding contribution to international television. The founder of Balaji Telefilms got emotional as she accepted her award at the ceremony held in New York on late Monday night.
A video shared by chef Vikas Khanna, who was also present at the awards ceremony, shows part of Ekta Kapoor’s acceptance speech. She thanked her mother as she recalled how they started Balaji Telefilms together from her father Jeetendra’s garage.
She also dedicated her award to India, saying: “This award is for you, India. And all the Indians here – we are few, but we are enough.
“In your history, I find my stories. In your strength and your tenacity, I find my grit,” said Kapoor.
This was the second nomination and maiden win in the segment for Das, who shared the trophy with popular British teen sitcom "Derry Girls" season three. Shefali Shah and Jim Sarbh were the other Indian artists to be nominated at the annual international awards ceremony.
hah, who was nominated in the best actress category for the second season of Netflix show "Delhi Crime", lost the title to Mexican star Carla Souza of "La Caida (Dive)".
"Rocket Boys" star Jim Sarbh also couldn't convert his best performance by an actor nomination into a win. Sarbh was bested by "Sherlock" alum Martin Freeman, who earned the award for "The Responder".
