Domino's Pizza doppelgangers on Swiggy triggers scam alert by internet users

Most of the search results for Domino's Pizza were intentionally misspelled, potentially misleading customers into thinking they were ordering from the renowned food chain.

Domino's Pizza has not yet responded to the matter.

In a bizarre turn of events, a Swiggy user, Ravi Handa, uncovered a slew of fake Domino's Pizza outlets on the food delivery platform, raising questions about trademark infringement and customer deception. Handa exposed the deceptive spree through a screenshot, revealing a chain of Domino's Pizza stores with subtly tweaked spellings across his locality in Kolkata.

Handa tagged Swiggy, pointing out the issue, "This is clearly a fraud. Only one of these is genuine. Why are you letting this happen? Why isn't Domino's objecting to blatant violation of trademark."

The gravity of the situation deepened as Handa shared another screenshot showcasing a past order listing, complete with ratings. He emphasized, "This isn't just a joke. Someone close to me actually fell for it. They realized it only after they got the delivery and saw the box."

Unveiling the geographic variation in the issue, a Mumbai resident commented, "Hmm doesn’t show up like that here. Swiggy does not monitor some locations. Or there are no frauds in Bombay?" Handa clarified that the concern depends on the location and shared screenshots posted by other users from Ghaziabad and Vaishali in Delhi NCR who seem to have a similar problem – a long list of “Domino’s” on their Swiggy app.

While the official support handle of Swiggy responded, stating, "Hey Ravi, we'd like to have this looked into, please share your pincode over DM for us to have this checked," the multinational pizza giant is yet to address the matter.
Most of the search results for Domino's Pizza were intentionally misspelled, potentially misleading customers into thinking they were ordering from the renowned American food chain.

In reality, these outlets are local vendors capitalizing on the iconic brand's popularity and delivering their products. While some spelling errors are too glaring to be missed (such as “Dokinos” or “Daminos”) many are subtle (“Dominos Pizza”.)

Similar incidents in the past led to a popular coffee chain in Delhi “Sardarbaksh Coffee” getting a lawsuit from Starbucks which forced them to change their name to “Sardar-ji baksh”.
