Dubai residents had their normal lives disrupted over the past few days as heavy rains lashed the emirate, leaving infrastructure such as roads, buildings and other key landmarks submerged in varying levels of water.
A couple got stuck inside an IKEA outlet in Dubai during the rains and the staffers, realising that they were the last customers and intended to sleep inside a card, offered them food and bed. In an Instagram video, the couple's daughter shared the experience and thanked IKEA for taking care of her parents.
"Thank you so much @ikeauae for your kindness and generosity for accommodating my parents last 16th April 2024."
"My parents were stuck in Dubai as the roads were closed due to the heavy rain and floods. Thankfully, they went to Ikea for Dinner as they were around the area," the woman wrote in the caption.
The woman further said that the IKEA staffers offered her parents a bed to sleep and gave them snacks, pillows and free breakfast.
"Guess what? They told my parents to stay and they will prepare a bed and place for them to sleep. Not only that, Ikea Dubai gave them toiletries, snacks, pillows and free breakfast. We are really grateful for Ikea for taking care of my parents and ensuring their safety," the woman wrote in the caption.
The woman's video saw a lot of user comments, many of whom praised IKEA for their gesture.
"Wow! Well done, IKEA. Hope your folks eventually made it home safely," one user wrote.
"This kind of video needs to be seen in the efforts of everyone to help and support each other. Thank you for sharing this," another user wrote.
