Coldplay fans across the country have been disappointed by how quickly the tickets for the concerts in Mumbai on January 18, 19, and 21 sold out, but speculation about the English rock band adding Ahmedabad to their India tour on January 25 has sent fans into a frenzy. It has also resulted in the tariff of luxury hotels soaring with many having sold out their rooms between January 24 and 27.
For example, Courtyard by Marriott at Sindhu Bhavan has a room with two single beds with a city view available for Rs 8,176 per night including taxes for September 27, a Friday. But when checked for January 24, also a Friday, the rate for the same room rockets to Rs 60,088 including taxes, as per Marriott's website. The five-star hotel has a free cancellation policy if alerted two days before the booking date and is 17 km from Narendra Modi Stadium where Coldplay is rumoured to play.
Four-star hotel The Fern Residency at Subhash Bridge is charging Rs 52,563 for their double occupancy Winter Green Premium Room, including taxes, for January 24. "Refund is not applicable for this booking," the hotel stated on Make My Trip website. The same room is available for Rs 5,724, including taxes, on September 27. There are no charges for cancellations made two days before the booking date.
On Goibibo, the only twin bedroom available in ITC Narmada for January 24 was priced at Rs 59,000 including taxes and is non-refundable. The luxury hotel has several rooms available for September 27 with the cheapest double occupancy room being priced at Rs 12,390 including taxes and offers free cancellation before September 25.
Most of the more affordable rooms at these hotels were sold out on January 24.
According to the buzz on social media, most Coldplay fans keen on catching the possible show at Ahmedabad have been making reservations at hotels close to Narendra Modi Stadium that has a refundable policy, in case the rumour turns out to be just that.
Credit card enthusiast and software engineer from Jharkhand, Anirban Chowdhury, took to X on Tuesday to share that he booked a double room at Fairfield by Marriott which was priced at Rs 53,200 on January 25. He also made a second reservation at Ramada -- which has a free cancellation policy -- because it is one of the luxury hotels closest to the supposed venue.
