A number of celebrities were seen wearing red pins while attending the Oscars at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. Singer Billie Eilish, actor Mark Ruffalo and Ramy Youseff, among others, were seen wearing the red pin featuring an outstretched hand with a heart on it to call for a ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

“We come together as artists and advocates, but most importantly as human beings witnessing the devastating loss of lives and unfolding horrors in Israel and Palestine,” the letter to President Biden, posted on the Artists4Ceasefire's website read. “We ask that, as President of the United States, you and the US Congress call for an immediate de-escalation and ceasefire in Gaza and Israel before another life is lost."
The red enamel lapel pins is being worn by stars since the beginning of the awards season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Annie Lennox and Phoebe Bridgers wore the pin at the Grammys held in February while Joe Alwyn and Dua Lipa wore the pin at the pre-parties ahead of the BAFTAs.
As stars wore the red pins in solidarity at the Oscars 2024 red carpet, protestors took to the streets of Hollywood and disrupted traffic outside the Dolby Theatre and slowed stars’ arrival at the red carpet to turn the Oscar spotlight to the ongoing conflict.
