British passengers aboard a recent SunExpress flight to Turkey created quite a stir as they swiftly depleted the aircraft's alcohol inventory within a mere 25 minutes of takeoff.
While too many details of the incident have not been made public, Max Kownatzki, the US-German chief executive of SunExpress, shared what happened onboard.
Describing the Brits on board as "more high-spend, more hedonistic" than their counterparts from other nations, Kownatzki said: “We sold out of beer and wine 25 minutes after departure; we haven’t done that in any other market.”
The specifics regarding the departing airport, flight date, and passenger count remain undisclosed.
The startling pace at which alcohol stocks vanished on the aforementioned flight underscores a broader trend in consumer behaviour. Kownatzki's revelation regarding the rapid exhaustion of beer and wine highlights the unique preferences of British travellers, characterized by a penchant for indulgence and leisure.
SunExpress has been rapidly expanding in the UK market. From a modest presence at five UK airports in 2022, the airline has substantially augmented its footprint to encompass nine key airports across the country.
Kownatzki elucidated on this strategic growth trajectory, emphasizing the airline's ascent to the third position behind industry stalwarts Jet2.com and easyJet.
SunExpress was established in 1989 as a joint venture between Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines.
