A Bengaluru woman recently took to social media to express her shock at discovering that her Uber expenses had surpassed her rent, underscoring the high cost of living in India's tech capital.
"I can’t believe my Uber expenses are more than half the amount I pay as rent in Bengaluru. For me, this has got to be the most useful feature by CRED till date!” she wrote, sharing a screenshot of her monthly Uber transactions.
The woman's post, detailing 74 Uber rides between July 1 and 25 that totalled a staggering Rs 16,668, has since gone viral, amassing over 1.76 lakh views.

One user suggested: “At this point maybe it's better if you buy yourself a vehicle. Even monthly EMIs would be far lesser.”
“You deserve a loyalty card from Uber,” another joked.
A third shared her own experience: “As someone who pays 700 on one side, I dread looking at this feature. Thankfully I don’t have to travel to office everyday.”
A fourth was aghast at the expenses. “My god, how do you manage to look at this number. I would think twice before even ordering a cab from Ola/Uber. I get a Rapido bike taxi on a daily basis for both ways commute. I don’t have the heart to look at the credit card statement to check the cost,” the comment read.
Bengaluru traffic as well as steep fares on cab aggregator apps have become a cause of concern for residents, many of who rent houses, and thus have additional expenses. There has been a slash in rents in the IT corridor area since professionals started moving away to other parts of the city with affordable housing.
