A video of an autorickshaw driver praising and listing out the benefits of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has gone viral online. In the clip, the man was seen describing how UPI acted saviour in his life and how he has been able to manage his finances effectively.
Shared on X by a dentist named Gautam Govitrikar, the video featured the autorickshaw driver talking in Marathi. According to Govitrikar, the man described UPI as “a life changing facility.”
When asked about the reason why he was all praise, the man told Govitrikar, “I have a steady balance in my bank account. It allows me to plan the monthly expenses ahead of time,” adding, “When it was all cash, I would make some frivolous expenses. Now I am saving money.” He also mentioned his earnings have increased due to people choosing him over other.
The man also talked about how the hassle of loose change is now gone after the introduction of UPI. Additionally, there have been no fights over it with customers. “

Those who know me know how big a fan of UPI I am.But often, I am reminded of the profound impact it has had on all our lives.
Like this rickshaw driver I met today who says “It has been a life changing facility. “
“How?” I asked him
Here is how:

Since being shared, the post has amassed over two lakh views. A majority of social media users agreed with the auto driver’s opinion.
“Since last 4 weeks I have had zero cash in my wallet. I pay everywhere through UPI. The only regret I feel for not carrying some small cash is my inability to give money to some beggars,” a user wrote.
Another user commented, “I too am a big fan of UPI. I don’t have to carry a wallet or a bag all the time, don’t have to worry about loose change. It has made making payments much easier.”
“Honest and unfiltered feedback!” a third user remarked.

It’s feel like ages I have carried cash since Covid. I handle everything via UPI from rent, bills & groceries purchases. Hardly see anyone who doesn’t accept UPI.

As a middle class resident, I use UPI big time.. hardly using cash.On the down side, it is like a credit card for salaried folks.. we tend to get stuff which may not be required. No Cash - No Problem - UPI hai na !!!! It’s fiscal planning that I have lost out (I’m responsible)

One very important point: Saves at least 1-2 hours everyday when the auto drivers used to run around on behalf of customers to get change from local shopkeepers at least 5-6 times in a day. I have also seen starting a trip late for another one waiting for the change from shops.

However, there was a small section of people who disagreed and had other thoughts about UPI.
“Pani puri guy on main road next to my society is running a few more units around, they all use same QR code printed on thela and this one has the Paytm sound device, which is is forever announcing the money received. Others are not allowed to accept cash,” a user explained.
Another user added, “Does the rickshaw driver realize that now, if he is the owner, he will have to have a merchant account to accept payment via UPI. Merchant fee is 1.1%, which he didn't have to pay before in cash transactions.”
