An Australian visitor in Singapore shared a video of his encounter with a 91-year-old man who continued to work full time, prompting widespread reactions online.

The video, posted on Instagram by Jaden Laing, showed the two speaking inside a public bathroom. Laing began by asking, “How are you?” to which the elderly worker replied, “I am okay.” When Laing followed up with, “How’s your day?” the man misheard the question as “How’s your age?” and answered, “Ninety-one years old.”

Visibly surprised, Laing exclaimed, “No way! You’re still working. You’re a man, brother.”

Laing continued the conversation by enquiring about the man’s schedule. “What time you finish work?” he asked. The reply came: “7 pm.” On being asked how many hours he worked, the elderly employee said, “Twelve hours.”

The discussion then turned to health and diet. Laing asked, “How do you look so healthy? What’s your diet? What do you eat?” The man responded, “Normal eating.” When asked about physical activity, he said, “Never exercise.” Reacting with disbelief, Laing said, “You’ve never exercised in your life? You’re the man.”

Towards the end of the recording, Laing offered the worker some money, telling him: “Here, I’ve got a little tip for you, brother. A little tip. Get some lunch. Love you, brother. You’re a soldier. Take care. Keep working hard.”

Sharing the moment online, Laing wrote in the caption: “I noticed a really elderly man working hard in the bathroom in Singapore, so I gave him money for lunch. Stand up in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God (Leviticus 19:32). A powerful reminder that honouring the elderly is part of honouring God Himself.”

The post attracted widespread attention, with viewers describing the interaction as moving and inspiring. One comment read: “This made me tear up, what a beautiful soul.” Another stated: “Respect for both the old man and for you, this was inspiring.”

A user wrote: “Bro's 91 and has been turning up his whole life. Take note young bloods how weak y'all actually are. That generation got it done, this one keeps making excuses. Mad love to you brother for honouring him and showing respect.” Another added: “The beautiful elderly gentleman was so happy that someone stopped to ask him how he was, and showed a genuine interest in him. May God Bless both men.”

One follower observed: “Singapore’s work ethic is unmatched, but this also shows the challenges seniors face.”

A further response praised Laing’s approach, saying: “The way you spoke to him with respect was touching.”
