A heavy downpour on Wednesday turned the spotlight on Gurugram's crumbling urban infrastructure, as several neighbourhoods, including some of the city's most affluent areas, were submerged under knee-deep water. The torrential rain, which lasted just half an hour, severely disrupted traffic and exposed the vulnerability of even the most expensive residential localities.

The upscale Golf Course Road, home to the ultra-luxurious DLF Camellias and DLF Magnolias, became the epicentre of the chaos. Former Meta employee Anushri Pawar captured the grim reality in a video that she shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The clip, which quickly went viral, showed waterlogged streets outside the high-rise apartments, with luxury cars struggling to navigate the flooded roads.

Pawar’s post, dripping with sarcasm, highlighted the irony of the situation. “What should we call this? River Facing or Sea Facing? This is the condition of Roads in front of Rs 100 crore Camellias and Magnolias at the Golf Course Road in Gurgaon,” she wrote.

The video resonated with many residents across Delhi NCR, drawing a wave of reactions on social media. While some expressed disbelief, others used the opportunity to compare Gurugram’s infrastructure with other cities. A resident of Noida commented, “Have never seen such a thing in Noida. My place is fabulous.”

Another user pointed out that the waterlogging issue is symptomatic of a larger problem, stating, “What we are seeing is nothing else but poor city infrastructure design lacking a rain drainage system.”

Several other users shared videos of waterlogging from their areas.

Earlier this year, four apartments in the DLF Camellias were sold for a staggering Rs 106.4 crore each, with buyers including prominent business figures like Rahul Dhanuka, joint managing director of Dhanuka Agritech, and Peyush Bansal, co-founder of Lenskart.
