During their Computex keynote, AMD CEO Lisa Su confirmed that the refreshed Model S and Model X would have the same graphics technology that powers Sony's PlayStation 5 and Microsoft's Xbox Series S and X. AMD's RDNA 2 is the foundation for both next generation consoles and will also be integrated into Tesla's infotainment system for the revamped cars.
This basically gives you the ability to experience high fidelity gaming from the comfort of your car though that use case might be highly situational. There is still something to be said about showing off what your car is capable of.
Su said that the RDNA 2 would take over when the infotainment system either switches to games mode or is playing something that demands some extra juice. This means that the system will switch between low power mode and high performance mode like most laptops do these days.
The new infotainment systems on the cars will also feature two 17-inch screens and an 8-inch display for the rear passengers. As to why you would have all this power in a car in the first place? Why not? These are cars that are going to be insanely expensive and for the prices that you are paying for them, having cool little novelties like these are part of the charm.
