Popular social media platform Snapchat has announced a new feature to prevent misuse of its AI-driven tools. Snapchat released its different safety policies and other new features via a new blog post on Tuesday, and the biggest highlight of that announcement was the introduction of watermarks to AI-generated images.
Snapchat's AI-generated images
Snapchat currently allows its premium users to generate AI-rendered images using its in-house tools. Its chatbot “My AI” and its “Dreams” tool currently help people in generating or fine-tune existing images with the help of AI.
However, in the future, there will be a small ghost logo with a sparkle icon watermark added for AI-generated images, that will act as a visual addition for images shared in the app as well as when they are exported to a user's camera roll.
Snapchat’s parent company Snap, highlighted the wide range of AI-powered features it has added in the past few years, including AR Lenses, My AI, Generative AI Chat Wallpaper, and others. But, to curb the increasing use of AI, Snapchat has added that they want to be more transparent with AI-powered content in the future.
Therefore, the decision to add a watermark on AI-generated images makes a lot of sense. Snap also announced it has developed more safety measures to ensure all AI-powered features are following its safety and privacy regulations.
Snap has also warned users against removing its 'Ghost with sparkles' watermark from AI-generated images, stating that doing so will be a violation of their terms and conditions.
