Samsung launches Galaxy S8 Active with flat screen and enhanced battery

The phone will cost USD 850, that is, almost Rs 55,000 to the buyers

Claimed to be the “toughest Galaxy smartphone yet” Samsung has started releasing Galaxy S8 Active on pre-order for users in the US.

The phone comes with a flat screen, unlike Galaxy S8 which has Infinity Display screen. The screen size is also relatively smaller, but still it occupies most of the front of the phone, said a report in BGR.

The 5.8-inches long screen has a 2K Super AMOLED display with 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The phone will cost USD 850, that is, almost Rs 55,000.

The phone will come in two colours, Meteor Grey and Gold.

The claimed ruggedness of the phone originates from its metal frame and a polycarbonate back. The Galaxy S8, on the other hand, is considered to be one of the most fragile phones ever by many reviewers.

The Galaxy S8 Active has a military certification for being dust and water resistant. The Galaxy S8 was also dust and water resistant but it did not have any such certification.

Except for the battery, all other aspects of the new phone are similar to the Galaxy S8.  Galaxy S8 Active will come with an enhanced battery of capacity 4,000 mAh. The phone also comes with Bixby support—the virtual assistant developed by Samsung.

Currently, there is no information about its launch in India.
