Apple has finally released its big software updates for their devices to the public on September 18. Users in India started receiving the updates late night yesterday.

Staring with the iPhone, which will see its OS updated to iOS 17, the iPad got iPadOS 17, macOS Sonoma is a big update for Macs and finally Apple TV was be updated to tvOS 17.

Installing the latest update

There's not much to it really, once the update is ready for your device, you will see a notification on your device to install it. Simply follow the instructions and download it. If you are on the beta version of any of the updates, go to settings and switch off the beta updates in Settings > General > Software Update.

Devices supported by iOS 17

The oldest devices supported by iOS 17 are the iPhone XR, XS and XS Max, which were originally released in 2018.

A step above that are the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max for 2019, and the iPhone SE second generation along with the iPhone 12, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max and 12 mini which launched in 2020.

From there we step into 2021 with iPhone 13, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max and 13 mini. The iPhone 14 and 15 line-up makes up the newer phones released in 2022 and 2023.

Devices supported by iPadOS 17

The oldest iPad's supported are the iPad Pro 12.9-inch second generation, and the iPad Pro 10.5-inch which were released in 2017.

From there we move into 2018's iPad Pro 11-inch first generation and the sixth generation of the standard iPad. The iPad Air 3rd generation released in 2019, along with iPad mini 5th generation are also supported.

Devices supported by macOS Sonoma

The oldest Mac that can run the update is the 2017 iMac Pro. From 2018, we have the Mac Mini (2018), MacBook Air (2018) and MacBook Pro (2018). All iMac models released in 2019 and later are eligible for the update.

Devices supported by watchOS 10

watchOS 10 is compatible with the Apple Watch Series 4, Series 5, Apple Watch SE, Apple Watch Series 6, Series 7, Series 8, Series 9, the Apple Watch Ultra and the Apple Watch Ultra 2.

watchOS 10 also requires an iPhone XS or later with iOS 17 installed.

Devices supported by tvOS 17

The tvOS 17 update is only available for Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD.
