Gionee on August 9 launched its latest smartphone in its A1 series, A1 Lite, for Indian markets. The smartphone priced at Rs 14,999, comes as the Chinese smartphone company’s latest offering in the budget smartphone segment with adequate features.

The A1 Lite is the cheapest of the A1 series of smartphones by Gionee,  the other two being the Gionee A1 priced at Rs 19,999 and the A1 Plus at Rs 26,999 respectively.

On the optics front, the Gionee A1 Lite undoubtedly scores a high in the budget smartphone range by offering a 20 MP front ‘selfie’ camera with a flash, and a 13 MP dual rear camera on the back. The front selfie camera remains one of the USPs of Gionee’s selling factor in India which it advertises aggressively.

The company has put quite an effort for its front camera as it comes with a four-cell technology that captures clearer selfies. The camera has a facial enhancement algorithm which automatically detects a face and applies custom beauty settings.

Under its hood, the A1 Lite packs a 4,000 mAh battery and also comes equipped with a fingerprint sensor that the company has said unlocks the screen in just 0.3 seconds.

“India is an extremely important market for us and we have our full focus on bringing in customised products for the Indian consumer. We are putting all our energy in understanding the consumer behaviour and providing products that facilitate and enhance the user experience. With the newest in line dual rear camera that delivers professional quality images and videos, and a trendy design, A1 Lite will surely be the next game changer,” said Alok Shrivastava, director – business intelligence and planning, Gionee India, while commenting on the launch.

The device will be available across brick and mortar stores in the country from August 10 onwards.

The smartphone has a 5.3-inch display screen with Gorilla Glass protection and it also offers a split screen feature for multi-taskers.

Gionee claims that the A1 Lite can last upto 30 hours on a single charge.

The smartphone in its array of features also includes a 2.5 D curved glass, a metallic back cover and sleek unibody design.

The phone comes with a two year extended warranty.

Gionee has also partnered with Airtel and Paytm to roll out some offers this time on purchase of the A1 Lite.

A customer will get 10 GB extra data on Airtel per month for six months every time one recharges for 1 GB or more. Also, one gets two Paytm cashback vouchers of Rs 250 if one purchases something priced at Rs 350 or above in Paytm Mall.

Gionee is being made available across offline stores as well and hence will offer good competition to the upcoming Nokia 5, which is about to be launched in India at a price of Rs 12,899.
