Adobe’s Project Primrose unveils interactive dress that changes design

Adobe unveiled interactive dress that can transform its design and style as a part of Project Primrose at the Adobe Max 2023 event in Los Angeles. The presentation, led by research scientist Christine Dierk, left the audience in awe as they witnessed the dress's remarkable abilities to change design at the click of a button.

The interactive dress began continuously shifting its patterns in response to Dierk's commands. The outfit can detect the wearer's movements, causing the design to sway and flow in tandem with the wearer's actions.

Project Primrose is an exploration of flexible designs that pushes boundaries of traditional clothing. It uses reflective light-diffuser modules that have a polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) on the back that is reflective. The material is often used in smart window applications, allows for low-power, non-emissive displays that can be cut into various shapes and can dynamically diffuse light to create striking visual effects.

The core concept of Project Primrose is to create a wearable, adaptable, and flexible dress using non-emissive textiles. This enables content creators and designers to project their designs and creations onto the interactive dress, treating it as a dynamic canvas that evolves with their creative impulses.

The Project offers a glimpse of a future where clothing can be a medium for personal expression and artistic creativity.
