In a statement, the ministry said during the event APM Terminals and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 20,000 crore, expressing their intent to invest in the Vadhavan Port Project.

The efforts are aimed at boosting ports-led industries and make India as a key destination for recycling warships and other ships under 'Aatma Nirbhar Bharat', the Shipping Minister said.
The bodies coming together for this initiative include Maritime Association of Shipowners Shipmanagers and Agents (MASSA) and Foreign Owners Representatives and Ship Managers Association (FOSMA).
The official said that as per WHO guidelines, scanning of all aboard on the vessels are being done and all necessary facilities were being extended to them.
The decision was taken at the 17th meeting of the Martime State Development Council (MSDC) held here in which secretaries of states participated.

"Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) and Petronet LNG have been asked to plan and coordinate their work plans in a manner such that LNG barges could commence navigation on NW1 by December 2018," the Shipping Ministry said in a statement.
As many as 141 agreements entailing investment of Rs 82,900 crore was signed at the summit which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday.

"The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given its approval to the proposal of the Ministry of Shipping for provision and operationalisation of credit of USD 150 million from EXIM Bank for development of Chabahar Port in Iran," a Shipping Ministry statement said after the meeting.
In a bid to boost movement for goods and passengers via waterways, the Cabinet last year approved plans for enactment of a legislation for converting 111 river stretches across the country into National Waterways.
"Cochin Port Trust has approached KITCO to undertake a study for utilisation of dredged sand... It is estimated that around 4 million cubic metres of sand is being dredged from an area of about 5 km in the shipping channel and dumped in the outer sea every year," Shipping Ministry said in a statement today.
"During 2015-16, a total of 30 projects are to be awarded which will involve an investment of Rs 14,225 crores and capacity enhancement by 162 MTPA," the Shipping Ministry said in a statement today.
One of the issues hindering the growth of coastal shipping has been the levy of customs and central excise duty on bunker fuels which raises cost of transportation, said an official statement.
