India will definitely achieve the target for enhancing solar power capacity and add 10,500 MW in the current fiscal, New & Renewable Energy Minister Piyush Goyal said today.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy in its latest projections, has set a target of having 48GW grid connected cumulative solar power generation capacity by 2018-19.
Ruling against India, the WTO recently had said India's power purchase agreements with solar firms were 'inconsistent' with international norms - a matter in which the US had filed a complaint before the global trade body alleging discrimination against American firms.
"The cumulative installed capacity has reached 5,130 MW with installed capacity of 1,385 MW in current financial year," Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said in a press release.
The Government has revised the target of National Solar Mission (NSM) from 20,000 MW to 1,00,000 MW by 2022. Of that, 40,000 MW is to come through grid connected solar rooftop systems.
The government says industrial & commercial sector will be encouraged for installations without subsidy. This will create market, build confidence of consumers and will enable balance capacity through market mode to achieve the target of 40,000 MWp by 2022, it adds.
"The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the scaling up of budget from Rs 600 crore to Rs 5,000 crore for implementation of Grid Connected Rooftops systems over a period of five years upto 2019-20 under National Solar Mission (NSM)," an official statement said.
The government has set a target of 40,000 MW of grid connected rooftop solar power generation capacity by 2022 under the National Solar Mission.
Recently, Azure Power commissioned a 100 MW capacity plant in Rajasthan, largest solar power project under the National Solar Mission making Azure the single largest owner and operator of projects under the NSM with a cumulative operational capacity of 142 MW.
In May, the group had projected solar generation capacity addition at 2,500 MW for this year.
