A tragic train collision killed over 200 people & injured more than a 1,000 in Orissa on 2nd June 2023. Amid these discussions, Railway Ministry’s ‘Kavach’ system is in question. Railway Ministry in its statement has made it clear that trains on that route were not installed with the Kavach system. Three trains — Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express and a goods train — were involved in the accident, one of the worst railway tragedies of the country.
The two trains were carrying around 2,000 passengers. At least 261 people have been killed in the accident and nearly 1,000 injured.

The accident occurred at about 7 pm when the superfast express train was travelling from Shalimar station in Howrah to Chennai Central station in Tamil Nadu, an official said.
