The Indian Premier League (IPL) started in 2008 with eight teams based on eight Indian cities. The league is a professional Twenty20 cricket league with double round-robin and playoffs format. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) founded the league in 2007. Lalit Modi was the 1st chairman of the IPL and current chairman is Brijesh Patel. Rajasthan Royals won the inaugural IPL title in 2008. The most successful team of the IPL is Mumbai Indians with five titles, followed by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with 4 titles. In 2009, the IPL was shifted to South Africa and, in 2014, half the tournament of the IPL was shifted to UAE due to general elections in India. The schedule of the 2020 season of the IPL was postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak in India, later in the year the whole season was shifted to UAE. In 2021, half of the IPL was held in India and was suspended due to the outbreak of coronavirus in the IPL teams and later it was shifted to UAE. Virat Kohli is the most successful batsman in the IPL with 6,283 runs. Lasith Malinga has taken most wickets in the IPL with 170 wickets. There will be two new teams, Lucknow and Ahmedabad, in the 2022 IPL season. More
