Dhanteras 2025 Date: Dhantrayodashi is popularly known as Dhanteras, it marks the beginning of the five-day-long Diwali festival. This year Dhanteras will be celebrated on Saturday, October 18. This sacred day is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kubera, the divine deities of wealth and prosperity.

According to Hindu beliefs, on this day Goddess Lakshmi emerged from the ocean during the Samudra Manthan (churning of the Milky Sea), bringing divine wealth and abundance to the world. Hence, devotees worship Mahalakshmi and Lord Kubera on Dhantrayodashi to invite prosperity and fortune into their homes.

Note: The most auspicious time for Dhanteras Puja is during Pradosh Kaal, the period after sunset that lasts for about two hours and twenty-four minutes.

Pradosh Kaal and Sthir Lagna Importance

It is said that Lakshmi Puja on Dhanteras should be performed during Pradosh Kaal, especially when Sthir Lagna is prevailing. The word Sthir means fixed, symbolizing stability. When Puja is performed during this period, it ensures that Goddess Lakshmi stays permanently in your home.

Among all Lagnas, Vrishabha Lagna (Taurus Lagna) is considered most auspicious, as it often overlaps with Pradosh Kaal during Diwali. Devotees are advised not to rely on Choghadiya Muhurat for Dhanteras Puja since it is meant for travel-related purposes rather than worship.

Why Buying Gold on Dhanteras is Considered Auspicious?

Buying gold, silver or new utensils on Dhanteras is a long-standing tradition in Hindu culture. It is believed that any new purchase made on this day invites good fortune, wealth, and success into the household. Gold, in particular is seen as a symbol of Lakshmi’s blessings and financial stability.

Hence, October 18, 2025, will be the most auspicious time to buy gold, silver or valuable assets, as it aligns with the Pradosh Kaal Muhurat.

Dhanteras as Dhanwantari Jayanti

The day of Dhanteras is also celebrated as Dhanvantari Trayodashi or Dhanvantari Jayanti, marking the birth of Lord Dhanvantari, the divine physician and the God of Ayurveda. Devotees worship him for good health, healing, and longevity.

In 2025, Dhantrayodashi or Dhanteras will be celebrated on Saturday, October 18, with Lakshmi-Kuber Puja performed during Pradosh Kaal (6:41 PM to 7:38 PM). The day holds deep spiritual meaning such as inviting wealth, prosperity and health into one’s life.
