In a delightful cultural moment, an Indonesian delegation surprised guests at Rashtrapati Bhavan by singing the iconic Bollywood song Kuch Kuch Hota Hai during a state banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday. The event was organised in honour of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who is on his first state visit to India.

The delegation’s performance of the beloved track, originally sung by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik from the 1998 Karan Johar-directed film, brought a touch of Bollywood glamour to the evening. President Subianto’s visit holds historical significance as he is the Chief Guest for India’s 76th Republic Day celebrations. This visit also strengthens the long-standing ties between the two nations, dating back to 1950 when Indonesia’s first President, Sukarno, was the Chief Guest at India’s first Republic Day celebrations.

The performance resonated across social media after a video shared by ANI went viral, capturing the joy and unity showcased through the cultural crossover. Bollywood actress Kajol, who starred in the original movie, reacted to the video, tweeting, “Bollywood’s power to unite shines again! The Indonesian delegation singing Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is such a heartwarming tribute. Truly honored.”

The festivities extended beyond music, as Indonesia’s 190-member Genderang Suling Canka Lokananta ensemble band, representing the Indonesian Military Academy, is set to perform at Kartavya Path, blending military music with traditional flair.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Subianto met at Hyderabad House on Saturday, where discussions centered on enhancing the strategic partnership between the two nations. Key focus areas included defense cooperation, maritime collaboration, economic ties, and people-to-people connections.

Subianto is the fourth Indonesian head of state to attend India’s Republic Day celebrations, a reflection of the deepening friendship and shared vision between the two countries. The ongoing visit is expected to pave the way for further strengthening of political, defense, and cultural ties.
