The Kerala Congress has reacted to a viral video showing the wife of a Chhattisgarh police officer celebrating her birthday using an official government vehicle, raising serious concerns about the misuse of public resources.
In its statement, the party urged that the incident not be dismissed as just another example of VIP culture.
Chhattisgarh DSP's wife celebrates her birthday in full style, using her husband's official vehicle. Please wish her a very happy birthday, and lets not disrespect her by calling this mere VIP culture. pic.twitter.com/WYH6I22hTk

The video shows the wife of Janjgir-Champa district DSP Taslim Arif, marking her birthday at Sargana Resort. In the video, she is seen sitting on the bonnet of a government car with a blue beacon, cutting a cake, while several women record a video reel.
Another clip shows Farheen spraying artificial snow on the car’s windshield, writing 32 and later 33, which a man in the driver’s seat clears using the wipers. A cake and bouquet are also placed on the bonnet.
According to rules, government vehicles—particularly those fitted with blue beacons—are strictly meant for official use. Personal use of such vehicles is a clear violation of protocol.
Misuse of public assets like government vehicles falls under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and can lead to a prison term of up to seven years, along with a fine.
As of now, there has been no official action reported against the DSP or his wife.
