As for electric buses, the exemption will be indefinitely applicable to electric vehicles operated by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation

The Telangana government’s new electric vehicle policy – the ‘Telangana Electric Vehicle & Energy Storage Policy 2020-2030’ -- will come into effect tomorrow, the state’s minister for transport Ponnam Prabhakar announced on November 17.

The new EV policy is aimed at reducing pollution levels in the state’s capital Hyderabad.
Under the new EV policy, the Telangana government will be providing electric vehicles purchased and registered in the state 100 percent exemption from paying road tax and registration fees for the first two years up to December 31, 2026.

According to the government order, this exemption will be applicable to electric two-wheelers, four-wheelers, commercial passenger vehicles such as taxis, private cars, and three-wheeler autorickshaws, along with electric light goods carriers such as three-wheeled goods vehicles, electric tractors, and electric buses.

As for electric buses, the exemption will be indefinitely applicable to electric vehicles operated by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation. For buses owned by any industry exclusively for transporting employees (not for commercial purposes), if purchased and registered in Telangana, will be exempt from paying registration fees and road tax till December 31, 2026, irrespective of the number of vehicles it registers.

“It will save consumers up to Rs 1 lakh per year. The EV policy is being introduced with the aim of preventing Hyderabad from becoming a polluted city like Delhi,” Prabhakar was quoted by local media as saying.
