Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) Chairman Sam Pitroda announced that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will be visiting the United States from September 8. The visit will focus on connecting with the Indian diaspora, tech leaders, and academicians.
IOC Chairman in a video statement said a large community gathering is planned, along with discussions with technocrats and a dinner with leaders from the Dallas area. "He (Gandhi) is coming to the US for a very brief visit. He will be in Dallas on September 8th and will be in Washington DC on September 9th and 10th. In Dallas, we will have interactions with the University of Texas, students, academic institutions and community people. We will have a very large community gathering. We will meet some technocrats and then we will have dinner with leaders from the Dallas area," he added.
In Washington DC, Gandhi will have similar interactions with various groups, including think tanks and members of the national press, Pitroda said, adding Gandhi's visit would involve extensive engagements with people from different sectors.
Pitroda also emphasised that since Gandhi assumed the role of Leader of the Opposition, he has been inundated with requests from the Indian diaspora, diplomats, academicians, business leaders, and international media for engagements with Gandhi.
"Since Rahul Gandhi has become the leader of opposition, I, as chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, which has a presence in 32 countries, (have) been bombarded with requests from the Indian diaspora, diplomats, academicians, businessmen, leaders, international media and many others, for interactions with Rahul Gandhi," Pitroda said.
Pitroda highlighted the significance of the visit, saying, "There are a lot of events planned with a variety of people because we find that people also have a lot of interest in the states we run with a Congress government, specially Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Gurgaon and hopeful in Maharashtra - Mumbai, Pune. These are the big business cities of the country with lot of focus on technology. So we see great interest in conversations from business and technology community as well."
"We look forward to a very successful visit, and we look forward to welcoming Rahul Gandhi to the US," Pitroda added.
Rahul Gandhi, a five-term MP, currently represents Rae Bareli, a seat previously held by his mother Sonia Gandhi. He won two seats in the Lok Sabha elections 2024 but resigned from Wayanad in Kerala. Gandhi first entered the Lok Sabha in 2004, winning from Amethi.
