Kejriwal had won the elections for the first time in 2013 and emerged as the giant-killer by defeating Sheila Dikshit of the Congress on the seat by a margin of over 25,000 votes.

New Delhi Election Result: Big battle on cards

The New Delhi Assembly constituency has seen a fierce contest between the three major contenders from the AAP, BJP and Congress. The stakes are high for Kejriwal who has already won this seat thrice but faces headwinds over his alleged involvement in graft cases. The BJP, which has never won the seat since 1977, is hoping to send a big message by defeating the former CM from the high-profile seat.

For the Congress, the contest with Kejriwal is a prestige battle given that it was Sandeep Dikshit's mother and incumbent CM Sheila Dikshit who was defeated from here. Dikshit has been critical of Kejriwal despite the  Congress' past alliances with AAP and would be hoping to avenge his mother's defeat.
