Once dreaming of owning a bicycle, Neeraj Singh today heads a Rs 400 crore business empire and is now stepping into politics as a candidate from Bihar’s Sheohar constituency. The 38-year-old entrepreneur, who left home before turning 18 to work as a security guard on the streets of Delhi, has since risen to become one of the most successful industrialists from the region.
Neeraj’s journey from a small village in Mathurapur to the helm of Usha Industries is a story of sheer perseverance. After completing his matriculation in 2000, he moved to Jharkhand in search of work but was turned away due to his young age. Back home, he began selling petrol and diesel to support his family, reported News18.
In 2003, Neeraj moved to Delhi and took up work as a security guard, often doing double shifts to make ends meet. A year later, he shifted to Pune, where he climbed the ladder from an office boy to an HR assistant. Following his grandmother’s death, he returned to Bihar and in 2010 joined a microfinance company in Motihari for Rs 3,300 a month, an experience that introduced him to business and market dynamics.
It was there that he found his entrepreneurial spark. After earning Rs 25,000 as a reward for helping a relative buy land, Neeraj used the money to start trading in grains — a small step that grew into a Rs 20–30 crore enterprise. His success in the grain trade laid the foundation for what would become a diversified business empire.
Over time, he expanded into sectors such as tiles, fibre blocks, fly ash bricks, road construction, and flour milling. His company, Usha Industries, now employs more than 2,000 people, with products supplied to various government projects. In 2025, Neeraj opened his own petrol pump on the Sheohar–Motihari road — a symbolic full circle for someone who once sold fuel on the roadside.
Now stepping into politics, Neeraj Singh has been announced as the Jan Suraaj Party’s candidate from the Sheohar Assembly constituency. Coming from the Rajput community, he is seen by many as an emblem of “success through struggle.”
A graduate and law degree holder from Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Muzaffarpur, Neeraj has also been active in social work for over a decade, contributing to education, healthcare, and employment initiatives. As he ventures into politics, he says his goal is to bring meaningful change to people’s lives through action and empathy.
The Bihar Assembly elections will be held in two phases—on November 6 and November 11—with the counting of votes set for November 14. The election will test the NDA’s unity and the opposition’s strength in one of India’s most politically crucial states.
