External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar is set to embark on a diplomatic tour beginning September 8, 2024, with visits to Riyadh, Berlin, and Geneva, aimed at strengthening India’s international ties and enhancing bilateral relations.
Visit to Riyadh: September 8-9
Dr Jaishankar will first travel to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from September 8 to 9, 2024, to attend the inaugural India-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. This landmark event will serve as a platform to review and expand institutional cooperation between India and the GCC. The GCC region, which has become a major trading partner for India and is home to around 8.9 million Indian expatriates, will see Dr. Jaishankar engaging in bilateral meetings with Foreign Ministers from GCC member countries. The discussions are expected to cover a range of sectors including political, trade, investment, energy, and cultural ties.
Visit to Berlin: September 10-11
Following Riyadh, Dr Jaishankar will proceed to Berlin, Germany, for a two-day visit from September 10 to 11, 2024. Germany stands as one of India’s significant trading partners and a leading source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). During his visit, Dr Jaishankar will meet with German Federal Foreign Minister and other key leaders to review and discuss the comprehensive bilateral relationship and explore further opportunities for collaboration.
Visit to Geneva: September 12-13
On the final leg of his tour, Dr Jaishankar will visit Geneva, Switzerland, from September 12 to 13, 2024. Known for housing numerous UN bodies and international organizations, Geneva will provide a venue for Dr Jaishankar to meet with heads and representatives of these entities. Additionally, he will hold discussions with the Swiss Foreign Minister to assess and enhance the close partnership between India and Switzerland, seeking new avenues to advance their bilateral relationship.
