Forty CRPF personnel were killed in the Pulwama attack last year

A Central Reserved Police Force personnel, who narrowly escaped death during the Pulwama fidayeen attack, is being celebrated across the nation now for a humble deed of kindness. He became the toast of social media after a video clip went viral in which he can be seen going beyond duty calls and feeding a disabled child in Srinagar’s Old City area.

Head constable Iqbal Singh was in the third bus behind the vehicle that was blown off during the Pulwama attack and was instrumental in rescuing the injured on the unfortunate day.

On Monday, Iqbal was deployed on law and order duty at Safa Kadal where a strike was going on, when not only did he gave away his food to a child in distress, but also took out time to feed him. The CRPF then shared the video on their official Twitter handle on Tuesday.

The 31-second video of the incident shows the head constable helping the specially-abled child wipe his mouth too. A voice behind the camera then asks in Kashmiri if the child wants water, then the CRPF man offers him that as well.

According to a Hindustan Times report quoting Sanjay Sharma, the public relations officer of the CRPF, the “paralytic child gestured him towards his lunch box” while Iqbal was on duty. That’s when he immediately started feeding the child and a Kashmiri onlooker made the video. He added that the CRPF personnel do not know who actually shot the video.

Sharma further said, “There was stone pelting in some parts of Downtown (Old City) during the strike. There is always pressure on the jawans on strike days and yet Iqbal, who is stationed with the 49th battalion of CRPF in Srinagar, took out time to do this. It has won many hearts.”

The video was shared on the Twitter handle of Srinagar Sector CRPF and retweeted by the CRPF Madadgar handle. It was captioned: “Humanity is the mother of all religions.”
