The accused in the Badlapur school sexual assault case, Akshay Shinde, died on Monday from gunfire in retaliation after he stole a police officer's pistol and started shooting inside the police car, said Thane police. Another police officer was hurt in the same event, they added
An official stated that Akshay Shinde, the school's sweeper, was being taken from Taloja jail to Badlapur for further investigation.
When the police vehicle reached Mumbra bypass, Shinde snatched a policeman’s gun and fired at an assistant police inspector. Shinde was injured in retaliatory firing, the official said.
The two minors were allegedly abused in the school toilet on August 12. The accused was arrested on August 17.
