65kg vs 69.5kg: Tihar jail counters AAP's claim on Kejriwal's weight loss

Tihar jail says Kejriwal has not lost weight since he arrived on April 1. AAP says the CM lost weight since his arrest on March 21.

After the Aam Aadmi Party ( AAP) on April 3 claimed that Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal lost 4.5 kg in jail and was not keeping well, the Tihar Jail authorities issued a statement saying the chief minister's weight is unchanged at 65kg.

"On arrival on 01.04.2024, Arvind Kejriwal was examined by two Doctors and all vitals were normal. Also, his weight is constant at 65 Kg, since arrival to jail and till date. Home-cooked food is being provided as per Court order. His vital statistics is normal," read the statement from Tihar jail.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was sent to Tihar jail for a 14-day judicial custody, has reportedly fallen ill and lost approximately 4.5 kg since his arrest on March 21. "The day ED took CM Arvind Kejriwal into their custody, he weighed 69.5 kg. Today he weighs 65 kg. His weight dropped by 4.5 kg in 12 days," said Delhi Minister and AAP leader Atishi.

Kejriwal is  a diabetic and his blood sugar level has been fluctuating over the past few days. It had dropped below 50 at one point, according to the AAP.  He has been given medicines to bring his blood sugar level under control.

The Chief Minister is being served home-cooked food  and his condition is being monitored. According to NDTV,  the Tihar jail officials have said they have also posted a quick response team near his cell for any emergency.

The AAP chief was sent to judicial custody in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case.
