In the wake of ceasefire violations along the western border on the night of May 10, the Chief of Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi on Sunday conducted a high-level review of the security situation with senior Army commanders.
An official statement on social media said that General Upendra Dwivedi has granted Army commanders to take decisive military action in the "kinetic domain" should there be any breach of the ceasefire agreement reached during the DGMO discussions on May 10.

"The #COAS has granted full authority to the Army Commanders for counteraction in the kinetic domain to any violation of the understanding reached vide the DGMO talks of 10 May 2025."
A ceasefire was reached on the evening of May 10, following diplomatic intervention by the United States. However, within hours of the agreement, artillery exchanges resumed in the Kashmir region.
Shortly after the ceasefire, blasts from air-defence systems rang out in cities near the border, which remained under blackout conditions for the third night in a row.
India said Pakistan violated the ceasefire soon after it started. “For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding arrived at earlier this evening”, said Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in a televised statement late Saturday. “The armed forces are giving an adequate and appropriate response to these violations. We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility.”
The ceasefire was aimed to stop four days of fighting that followed a deadly terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam on April 22, which killed 26 people. The agreement was made directly between the two countries without any conditions.
