An Air India flight from San Francisco to Mumbai encountered a technical issue with one of its engines, which required passengers to deplane during a scheduled stop at the airport early on Tuesday.
Flight AI180 arrived on time at 12:45 AM but experienced a delay in takeoff due to a malfunction in the left engine. At approximately 5:20 AM, an announcement was made instructing all passengers to deplane.
The captain informed the passengers that this decision was made in the interest of flight safety.
Many such incidents of technical glitches have surfaced after the ill-fated Air India plane crash killed over 260 people, including people on the ground when it hit a medical college hostel.
On Monday, an Air India Express flight from Delhi to Ranchi was diverted back to the national capital shortly after taking off due to a suspected technical snag.
On Sunday, June 15, an Air India flight from Delhi to Zurich was delayed due to mandatory checks on Boeing 787-8 aircraft. This resulted in its late arrival in Switzerland close to the night curfew.
An Air India flight returned to Hong Kong on Monday shortly after takeoff due to a midair technical issue.
"AI315 operating from Hong Kong to Delhi on 16 June 2025 returned to Hong Kong shortly after takeoff due to a technical issue. The flight landed safely in Hong Kong and is undergoing checks as a matter of abundant precaution. Alternative arrangements have been planned to fly the passengers to their destination Delhi at the earliest," Air India said.
