With this, we wrap up this southern derby. Now then, the Indian Premier League 2025 is heading to its second weekend, and we have got another thrilling contest coming up next. The lavish Narendra Modi Stadium of Ahmedabad will light up once again, as the Gujarat Titans host Mumbai Indians in Match number 9. Both teams are coming off losing their first matches. That game will be played on Saturday, 29th March and the first ball is scheduled to be bowled at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). But do make sure you all join us for the pre-match analysis and an exciting build up an hour earlier. Till then, we take your leave from this match centre. Hope you enjoyed our coverage. Take care, until next time!

An off day for CSK then. But rather, the team would think it is better to have one early in the tournament rather than in the latter stages. However, there’s a lot for CSK to ponder upon before their next game, and batting approach is surely one of those areas. They also made a few fielding errors, for instance, dropping Rajat Patidar twice which proved too costly for them. RCB, on the other hand, stay crowned at the top with four points, and a very healthy net run rate.

The captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajat Patidar, is adjudged the PLAYER OF THE MATCH. He says that they posted a good total on this surface as the was stopping a bit. Adds that it was difficult to find the fence. He shares that it was special to play at Chepauk against CSK and an amazing experience performing in front of such a passionate crowd. Mentions that they were aiming for 200 and knew it wouldn’t be easy to chase. His focus was on maximizing every over while he was at the crease. He notes that the track offered assistance to the spinners and lauds Liam Livingstone for the way he bowled. He feels the bowling in Powerplay by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood was game-changing.

The Presentation Ceremony...

Josh Hazlewood of Royal Challengers Bengaluru is up for a chat now. Starts by saying that the ball is coming out nicely and he is feeling fresh and nice. He says it was a great display of pace and spin in unison. Thinks it was a two-paced wicket, with the fuller-length deliveries a bit easier to work with. Adds that hitting that 8-10 meter length worked in their favor. Mentions that the energy was great, coupled with a top effort in the fielding department, which really helps to lift the bowlers. Says that any time you get injured, you feel down, but he used that time wisely by doing fitness regularly. On Yash Dayal, he mentions that having a left-armer is crucial and appreciates him for having a good change of pace.

The captain of Chennai Super Kings, Ruturaj Gaikwad, feels that 170 was a par score on this wicket and admits that their batting wasn’t up to the mark. He acknowledges that lapses in the field cost them crucial runs and that the pitch got slower and stickier as the game progressed. He mentions that at times, teams have a target score in mind, but the extra 20 runs conceded made a big difference. With three world-class spinners in the team, he stresses the importance of holding onto chances. Looking ahead, he notes the long flight to Guwahati and emphasizes the need to turn up mentally prepared. He concludes by stating that while off days with bat and ball are inevitable in a tournament like the IPL, fielding must improve.

Earlier in the game, CSK invited RCB to bat, and the match quickly turned into a thrilling rollercoaster! Phil Salt came out blazing, taking on the new ball with infectious energy, while Kohli initially looked like he was finding his feet. MS Dhoni, sharp as ever, pulled off a lightning-quick stumping that changed the game's momentum. The spinners did their job, keeping things tight, but Kohli and Patidar gradually built a partnership that started to look dangerous. Patidar, living on the edge with a couple of dropped chances, kept the scoreboard ticking and smashed a solid fifty. After a brief wobble, Tim David swooped in like a hero, launching three massive sixes in the final over that propelled RCB to an impressive 196. For CSK, Noor Ahmad was the standout bowler with a three-wicket haul, while Matheesha Pathirana picked two of his own.

In a desperate bid to resurrect their crumbling chase, Shivam Dube launched a few powerful strikes, offering momentary sparks of hope for CSK. However, the momentum remained frustratingly out of reach, with the team struggling to gain any significant ground. The final nail in the coffin came when both Dube and Rachin Ravindra fell in a single over to Yash Dayal, leaving CSK staring at an insurmountable target. There was something to cheer for the crowd as they did get to see MS Dhoni come out to bat, who smashed a couple of biggies in the last over, along with Jadeja who, too, hit a few lusty blows, but unfortunately, it wasn’t the day to be for CSK in the end.

Running through unfamiliar territories, and also losing Sam Curran on the way, Shivam Dube joined Rachin Ravindra to bail CSK out of the rut, but they were just a tinge above run-a-ball, around the halfway stage. With the asking rate climbing over 12s, the RCB spinners further put the brakes on scoring. There was a visible hold and grip for the spinners as there was minimal dew, which multiplied CSK’s struggles with them being 65/4 at the halfway stage, versus RCB’s 93/2 at the same stage.

Chasing a big total of 197, CSK needed a strong start against the new ball, but they were pegged back badly as they lost three big wickets inside the Powerplay, including the skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad on a duck. The duo of Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar utilised the new ball to perfection and extracted some extra bounce, which troubled the batters. As a result, CSK were crawling at the Powerplay, being 28/3.

Not a competitive southern derby by any means as millions would have expected, but RCB will take it gleefully as they win two on the bounce. Their tournament has started with a bang with two big wins against two big opponents. Also, to be noted, both wins have come in away games, breaching the opposition’s fortresses. First defeating KKR in Eden Gardens, and now, crushing CSK at their own backyard on their way. A word of appreciation for Rajat Patidar, the skipper as well. He has shown a brave character in both games and maybe, this can turn their fortunes around? Still early days though.

FORTRESS CHEPAUK HAS BEEN BREACHED! In the hallowed cauldron of the MA Chidambaram Stadium, RCB has finally exorcised their 17-year demons, shattering a haunting streak with a performance that was nothing short of total domination. This is easily one of RCB’s most famous wins in recent times, including the one at Chinnaswamy last year, where they knocked the same opposition out of the playoff race. Also, this is CSK's biggest defeat in Chennai in the IPL, in terms of runs, against any opposition.

19.6FOUR! Royal Challengers Bengaluru complete a comprehensive win! Krunal goes into the deck again, over middle and leg, MSD helps the pull to the left of short fine leg for a boundary. 15.5Looped up, on off, Dhoni reaches out in front and eases the drive to cover.

15.4At 86.5 kph, on the pads, MS steps out and helps it wide of deep fine leg for a couple of runs.

15.3Tosses it up, full and at the stumps, Dhoni lunges and pats it to cover.

Chepauk gets alive as MS Dhoni walks in to bat at number 9.

15.2OUT! TAKEN! Second wicket of the night for Liam Livingstone! Flatter and shorter, on middle, Ashwin rocks back to unleash the pull but ends up hitting it a lot straighter. Gets it high on the bat and holes out to long on where Phil Salt takes an easy catch. Ashwin falls for 11 (8) and CSK are now 99/7.

15.1Short and on off, Jadeja goes back and cuts it past point for a single.

14.6FOUR! Innovative from Ashwin and gets it through! Pitched fuller and on the middle and leg, Ravichandran Ashwin switches his stance and reverses it aerially. Clears short third and collects a boundary.

14.4Tossed up, full and on middle, Jadeja turns it with the spin to deep square leg for a single.

14.3On the leg stump line, on a good length, Jadeja misses to tuck it across and the ball deflects off the thigh pad near the strip to the leg side.

13.3Aims the middle stump, full in length, Jadeja lunges out and pushes it to long on for a single.

13.1Tossed up, full and around off, Ashwin leans on and pushes it to long off for a single.

STRATEGIC BREAK! A double strike from Yash Dayal has put RCB firmly in control as they edge closer to ending their long wait for a win against CSK at Chepauk. The required run rate has skyrocketed to 16.57, making this an uphill task for the hosts. At this stage, realistically, it’s more about reducing the margin of defeat than anything else. Royal Challengers Bengaluru have been clinical with the ball so far and are well on course to make it two wins in two.

12.6A full toss, on middle, from around the stumps, clipped behind square in the leg side by Ashwin. A single only. A highly successful one for Yash Dayal and RCB as they get Rachin Ravindra and Shivam Dube in the same over.

Ravichandran Ashwin walks out to bat.

12.5OUT! CHOPPED ON! The writing seems pretty much on the wall for CSK now as they lose their Impact Player Shivam Dube! On the back of a length, nipping back into the southpaw, just around off, Shivam Dube stands tall and tries to drag it into the leg side, but a thick inside edge is found and the ball bounces before crashing into the stumps. Dube departs with not much impact, scoring 19 (15) and CSK are 80/6, needing another 117 runs off 43 balls.

12.4FOUR! Just beats Kohli down the ground! Spears in a full toss on off, Dube smashes it gun-barrel straight down the ground. Virat Kohli runs to his right from long on and dives to cut it off but the ball beats him.

12.3Length, outside off, Jadeja cuts it to deep backward point for a single.

12.2Back of a length, outside off, Jadeja tries to cut but misses as the ball passes over his angled bat.

Ravindra Jadeja is in next.

12.1OUT! DRAGGED ON! Yash Dayal provides a big wicket for RCB as Rachin Ravindra departs now! Half of the CSK side is back in the hut! Yash spears it full and angles it on the stumps. Rachin Ravindra clears his front foot to smash through the leg side, but inside edges onto the left boot and the ball then crashes into the wickets. Rachin Ravindra perishes on 41 (31) and CSK are 75/5.

11.6Just cannot get it away! Just a couple of runs from this over! A flipper on off, on a length, Shivam Dube tries to give it a whack to the leg side, but connects thin air.

11.5Quicker and flatter, fuller and outside off, Rachin Ravindra misses to sweep and the ball deflects off the keeper's gloves to roll towards short fine leg. They get a bye.

11.4What an over this is turning out to be from Suyash Sharma! Flat and at 98.5 kph, around off, Rachin backs away and cuts it to the point fielder.

11.3Outside off, on a good length, keeping the ball away from Dube's arc. Shivam gets on the back foot and cuts it to deep backward point for a single.

11.2Another dot! Outside off, flat and wide of off, on length, Shivam Dube goes on the back foot and punches it to cover.

11.1Dot to start with. Across off, to full, Shivam Dube crouches and pats it out to the off side.

10.6FOUR! Helped away! A  slower half-tracker on the leg stump line, Rachin Ravindra stays on the back foot, uses the pace of the ball and pulls it to the right of short fine leg for a boundary. Still a long, long way to go for CSK as they need another 124 runs off 54 balls remaining.

10.5Hard length, outside off, Shivam Dube lofts it over cover for a single only.

10.4Length-delivery, outside off, Dube cuts it to deep backward point for a single.

10.3A forward short leg in place now. And an excellent fielding display from Josh Hazlewood. Saves a certain boundary. Back of a length, around off, Shivam Dube slashes it over backward point. Josh Hazlewood runs across to his left from deep third and slides to save three for his side.

10.2Back of a length, cutting into the batter, on off, Dube chops it off the back foot to backward point.

10.1Fuller and around off, Rachin Ravindra pushes it to the cover region and calls off for a single. Has to hurry but makes home at the other end safely.

9.4FOUR! Gets it away! Flatter and shorter, quicker too, on middle and leg, Dube goes on the back foot and pulls it away. Beats the diving short fine leg to his right for a boundary.

9.3Nicely bowled! Drags the length back and the googly grips in the surface, Shivam hangs back to defend.

9.2SIX! Muscled down the ground! Sharma offers flight but serves it a bit too full, on off, Dube plants his front foot ahead and hammers it straight towards the sight screen for a six.

9.1Flat and short, on off, Dube rocks back and pushes it to cover.

8.6Floated up, on off, Dube reaches out in front and eases the drive down to long off for a single to get off the mark.

STRATEGIC BREAK. Well, things have transformed from bad to worse for CSK with Sam Curran being the latest casualty for the men in yellow. RCB are all over the home side, and are sniffing a big win already. Four batters, all out on single digit scores, just tells you how badly the CSK batters have struggled, first against the new ball and now, with the spinners putting the squeeze on. Rachin Ravindra is fighting a lone battle out there but is running out of partners thick and fast. It's a dual challenge for CSK as they just cannot afford to slow down further. They are already around run-a-ball and still need 145 runs off 67 balls. To tackle the challenge, CSK have summoned Shivam Dube as their Impact Substitute in place of Matheesha Pathirana. Dube is in at number 6.

8.5OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! Sam Curran holes out while trying to break free! Nicely looped up by Liam Livingstone from around the wicket. Hangs it up there, on the fuller side, Sam gets tempted as he sees the ball above his eyeline. His weight stays on the back foot as he winds up and looks to launch it back over the bowler's head. Skies it straight up and it goes only as far as long on where Krunal Pandya runs around to his right and takes it safely near his chest. Sam falls for 8 (13). Chennai Super Kings are now 52/4, needing 145 runs in 67 balls.

8.4Darted at the pads, Curran tucks it to deep square leg for one.

8.3FOUR! In the gap! Fractionally short, on middle and leg, Rachin Ravindra goes on the back foot in a flash and pulls it right between deep mid-wicket and long on for a boundary.

8.2Speared in, at the pads, on the fuller side, Sam smears it to deep mid-wicket for a single.

8.1So nearly chipped it back! At 91 kph, on off, Rachin does not get to the pitch of the ball and goes through with the drive. The ball stops on him but luckily for him, he manages to clear Liam. A single taken.

7.6Pushed through from the front of the hand, outside off, Curran stays back to a full delivery. Gets beaten on the outside edge, trying to push it away on the off side.

7.5Misfield! Short and on off, Curran hits it with the turn and the extra cover fielder dives over the ball. Concedes a couple of runs.

7.4Tosses it up and it is the googly, wider on off, Rachin reaches out and works it to long off for one.

7.3On the shorter side, on the pads, jabbed to deep mid-wicket for one.

7.2Another googly, on middle, Rachin reads it this time and punches it to the left of the bowler for a single.

7.1Beats the bat straight away! Starts with a googly, full and on off, Rachin does not pick it and looks to heave it away with the turn on the leg side. The ball lands and spins past the bat.

RCB's Impact Player is brought into the attack straightaway. Suyash Sharma replaces Yash Dayal.

6.6On a nagging length, on off, Ravindra lunges and nudges it beside the pitch on the leg side. A good over for CSK. 10 runs off it.

6.5FOUR! Streaky but they all count! Fired in, on the shorter side, Rachin rocks back for the pull. Gets an inside edge that goes between his legs and races away for a boundary.

6.4Floated up, slower and fuller, on middle, Sam pats it to long on and takes one.

6.3Pushed through, flat and short, on middle, Rachin knocks it to long on for a run.

6.2A bit of grip, on off,Rachin flicks this short ball to the left of long on for a brace.

6.1Starts with an off-break to the left-hander from around the wicket, on a nagging length, on off, Sam pushes it past point for a single.

Liam Livingstone is introduced into the attack now. Also, Suyash Sharma is in as the Impact Player for RCB, in place of Devdutt Padikkal.

5.6Sliding in at the hips, Curran tucks it off the back foot to deep mid-wicket for one.

5.5Bowled from wide of the crease and into the wicket, on off, Sam slaps it on the bounce to mid on.

5.4Uppish but safe! Angling in and then it straightens a bit, on off, on a length, Rachin looks to work it away on the leg side. Gets a leading edge that evades cover-point to his right. They cross.

5.3Closer to the off stump, on a good length, Curran drops it with soft hands in front of point for a quick single.

5.2Nibbling away a bit, on a good length, on off, Sam punches it firmly but straight to mid off.

5.1Bangs it on a hard length, on off, Rachin swivels and pulls it to deep backward square leg for a single.

4.6Another excellent over from Bhuvneshwar Kumar. A wicket of Deepak Hooda and 8 runs off it. Length-delivery, on top of the stumps, Sam Curran blocks it off the back foot.

4.5Across off, on a length, Sam slaps it off the back foot, but hits it straight to cover.

Sam Curran walks out to bat. Two slips in place for Sam.

4.4OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! On a good length, shaping away from the right-hander, just around off, Deepak Hooda stays on the back foot and tries to push it away, but plays inside the line and the ball passes the outside edge, on the way to the keeper. An appeal for caught behind from Jitesh Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, but not entertained by the umpire. Rajat Patidar trusts his men, and straightaway signals the 'T' to go upstairs. UltraEdge comes up and shows a faint spike as the ball passes close to the outside edge. An excellent review by RCB! Deepak Hooda departs on 4 (9) and things are getting really worrisome for CSK as they are 26/3.

4.3Fuller and around off, Rachin Ravindra slashes it through cover-point for a single.

4.2Hard length, at the stumps, angling on the pads, tucked across to deep square leg for a couple of more runs.

4.1FOUR! They need those coming regularly! On a good length, angling on the leg stump line, Rachin Ravindra taps his front foot ahead and uses his wrists to flick it to the left of mid on for a boundary.

4.1WIDE! Wayward down leg, on a length, Rachin misses to glance it away. Wide called.

3.6A pedestrian start for CSK in the chase, but what an excellent over from Josh Hazlewood! Just 5 runs off it! Keeps the line of attack on top of middle and leg, on a good length, Hooda tucks it into the leg side.

3.5Again, the length is identical, on the stumps, Deepak Hooda tries to push across to the leg side, and misses on the inside edge on the thigh pad.

3.4Back of a length, on middle and leg, Deepak Hooda gets a bit across and flicks it to the mid-wicket region.

3.3Aims the sticks, on middle, on a length, Rachin Ravindra stays leg side and works it to the right of backward point for a single.

3.2Nibbles away from off, on a nagging length, Rachin Ravindra tries to punch to the off side, but plays inside the line and gets beaten on the outside edge. A good comeback delivery by Hoff.

3.1FOUR! Nicely placed! Hits the deck hard, does Josh Hazlewood, around off, Rachin Ravindra gets on top of the ball, opens the bat face and places it between cover and point for a cracking boundary.

Tim David is mic’d up for a chat with the broadcasters. He says it was nice to get a few out of the middle and jokingly adds that he swung twice at the slower ball from Sam Curran but still missed. He highlights the importance of mixing up the pace, stressing that slower deliveries need to be bowled into the wicket rather than floated up. Acknowledges that the conditions here are very different from back home and emphasizes that a smooth swing and holding his base are key for him. David mentions that the talk was about needing to make use of the conditions and replicate what worked for CSK with the ball.

2.6BEATEN! Length ball, jagging back in again, around off, Deepak Hooda swings to loft it over mid off, but the ball sneaks in and beats the inside edge on the way to the keeper.

2.5INSIDE EDGE, FOUR! On a good length, nipping back into the batter, on top of off, Deepak Hooda tries to play that back foot punch through the off side, but inside edges past the stumps for a boundary at deep fine leg.

2.4BEATEN! Some extra bounce on a shortish length, outside off, Deepak Hooda leans back to cut it square once again, but the ball passes over his angled bat.

2.3Swing and a miss! Back of a length, outside off, skidding quickly. Deepak Hooda tries to cut it square but gets beaten past the outside edge.

2.2Nice and full, shaping a bit away on off, Deepak Hooda presses forward and blocks it right under his eyes.

2.1Length ball, on the pads, tucked across into the leg side by Rachin for a single.

Deepak Hooda walks out to bat with CSK in early trouble.

1.6OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! CSK under early trouble as they lose their skipper on a four-ball duck! RCB are thrilled to bits, and why not? Hoff keeps banging the ball on that hard length, and again, gets that extra bit of bounce off the surface as the ball skids through and lifts up on the batter. Ruturaj Gaikwad shapes to pull, goes through, but hits it off the higher part of the bat. Doesn't get the distance and the ball sails to the deep square leg region. The substitute fielder, Manoj Bhandage, runs across to his left and takes a fine catch.

The Chennai skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad walks in at number 3.

1.2OUT! GONE! CAUGHT! Another low score for Rahul Tripathi and Josh Hazlewood provides an early breakthrough for RCB! Josh bashes the hard length, and keeps the line of attack into the body line of the batter. The ball skids through quickly and rushes Tripathi into his shot. He goes through for a pull but mistimes it badly as the ball gets a bit heavy on him, and lobs an easy catch to Phil Salt stationed at mid-wicket. Rahul Tripathi departs for 5 and CSK are 8/1.

1.1Hoff bowls on that in-between length, across off, Rachin Ravindra leans on it and taps it to the left of cover for a quick single.

It will be Josh Hazlewood to share the attack.

0.6TOP EDGE AND FOUR! Short of a good length from Bhuvi, on top of off, Rahul Tripathi slashes hard at it and gets a top edge. The ball flies over the slips for a boundary at deep third. 7 off the first over then.

0.5This one curves away from the batter, at 132.9 kph, outside off, Rachin Ravindra guides the ball to deep backward point for a single.

0.4Tailing back into the batter, on a good length, on top of off, Rachin Ravindra plays it close to the body and keeps it out to the off side.

0.3Shortish, outside off, Rahul Tripathi extends his arms and pats it between cover and point for a single. Tripathi too, is off the mark!

0.2Rachin and CSK are up and underway in the chase! Back of a length, at the pads, Rachin Ravindra nudges it off the back foot, from the inner half of the bat to short fine leg for a quick single.
