Right then, the first set of fixtures from Group A are done and it is India and New Zealand who have the early lead in the race to the semis. It is now time to focus on Group B which features four more big names. First up, it will be Afghanistan taking on South Africa in Match number 3 at the National Stadium in Karachi. That game will be played on Friday, 21st February, and will begin at 9 am GMT. However, you can join us about an hour in advance for the build-up to that game. Cheers!
Rohit Sharma, the captain of India says that as the game goes on there are different emotions that go through, but says you got to be ready to handle any situation. Appreciates Gill and KL Rahul for batting very well. Thinks it is very hard to say about conditions being difficult, and thinks you play the conditions. Adds that as a team they did well. Also mentions that they were under pressure but that's where experience came into play. On Mohammad Shami, he says it has been a long time waiting for Shami and every time the ball is thrown at him, he has got a lot to offer. On Gill, he mentions that he is a class-apart batter and is batting brilliantly off late and showed that in this game as well. On him dropping the catch, he accepts that it was an easy one and he should have taken it, but also says that on odd days, these things happen. Credits Hridoy and Jaker Ali for forming a big partnership. On being asked about the expectations from the surface for the next game, Rohit says politely that he is not the curator but also reckons that might be similar to this game. Says a lot of games have happened in Dubai and they will look at how it works in their next fixture.
Najmul Hossain Shanto, the skipper of Bangladesh, says that the batting in the first powerplay cost them the game as they had lost five wickets there and it became tough for the lower-order batters to take on from there. He feels that they were somewhere around 30 runs short, but the way Hridoy batted is a great positive for the team. Mentions that on this kind of surface, the partnership between Tawhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali was amazing as the ball was spinning and he hopes that their batting continues to evolve in the next games. Further adds that Mahmudullah got injured so he didn’t play. Ponders that if they had picked two or three wickets early on in the powerplay in the second innings, things could have been different. Concludes that they played recently in Rawalpindi and they have an idea about the conditions over there.
Shubman Gill is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his masterful century. With a broad smile on his face, he mentions that this century was probably the most satisfying for him. Adds that when he and Rohit Sharma were batting, they decided to not cut the ball and decided to use their feet to get the ball over the circle as the ball was not easily coming onto the bat. Further tells that when Virat came to bat, they were planning to play more off the back foot. Says the first six gave him a lot of confidence and the second one helped him to get closer to his hundred. Expresses that at one point, the pressure was on them and the message was sent to him to stay till the end and finish the game.
The Presentation ceremony...
Earlier in the game, Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and opted to bat first which was contrary to what Rohit Sharma would have done but in the end, it feels that Shanto's decision was the right one as the pitch kept getting slower throughout the game, it's just that Bangladesh batted horribly to begin with and India capitalized with some fine bowling. Mohammad Shami was the wrecker-in-chief as his love affair with the ICC ODI tournaments continued and he finished with a five-fer and now has 60 wickets in the aforementioned competitions. The Bangladeshi top order was yet again under scrutiny as they played some reckless shots and in the middle phase, Indian spinners did what was expected of them. However, Tawhid Hridoy came to Bangladesh's rescue along with Jaker Ali and after having got a life each, the duo fought back hard. Hridoy went on to score a maiden ODI ton but it just wasn't enough.
Just after the 30th over, Rishad picked up Axar Patel and India were 144/4 at that stage, needing one proper stand whilst Bangladesh were probably one more wicket away from creating some real panic in the Indian camp. They almost got it as well but Jaker Ali dropped Rahul and from there on, the batters didn't look back. Gill went on to notch up a stellar ton, cementing his current place as the top-ranked ODI batter in the world. Rahul also fired towards the end and got into the 40s as the duo added an unbeaten stand of 87 runs and got their side over the line.
The middle phase was always going to be crucial and with dew not expected to play a factor, India did well to get those quick runs up top which Bangladesh didn't in their innings. The pitch just continued to get slower and Rishad Hossain bowled a lovely spell in which he snared Virat Kohli just when he started to have got a hold of the pace of the pitch and Mehidy Hasan Miraz gave him good company from the other end. India's scoring rate started to come down but Gill made sure that he played the anchoring role.
Needing 229 for the win, India would have been confident coming into bat and it showed as the opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill got those early boundaries away. Rohit was the aggressor as usual as Gill played a few delightful shots of his own. They added 69 runs before Rohit fell on the brink of the first Powerplay ending. Taskin Ahmed was the one who got that breakthrough and slowly but surely, Bangladesh started to crawl back into the game.
India are up and running in the Champions Trophy! Not quite an emphatic win but just comfortable enough. As for Bangladesh, it was a spirited effort with the ball but they had already lost the game in those opening 10 overs of their innings.
46.3SIX! KL RAHUL SCORES THE WINNING RUNS AND INDIA ARE ON BOARD IN THIS CHAMPIONS TROPHY 2025. Sakib bowls it short and angles it towards the leg stump. KL Rahul is quick to read the length and transfers the weight on the back foot. Swivels and pulls it with no intention to keep it down. Hoists it over deep square leg for a huge six. Not the easiest of the chases for India as Bangladesh made them work really hard to get these runs.

Gets to the other end, removes his helmet and bows down toward the dressing room where his teammates are up in applause, and so is the crowd. Also, Ravi Shastri on-air mentions that this is the slowest ODI century by any Indian batter post the ICC ODI World Cup 2019. But, Gill has paced his innings masterfully, batting along challenging and slow conditions of Dubai. Held onto one end and is almost there to see his team through the winning line.
45.1Beaten! Angling into the channel, and then just straightening up off the deck, around off, Shubman Gill pokes at it, plays inside the line and the ball zips past his outside edge.
44.6Sakib slips in another full toss, this time around the waist level that dips on Rahul. He knocks it away but finds the fielder at cover. KL Rahul looks at the leg umpire for a No Ball, but the umpire is unmoved.
44.5Across off on a length, Shubman Gill glides it down to deep third for a single.
44.4FOUR! Moves onto 98 now, does Gill! Short in length, angling on the leg stump, Shubman Gill stands tall, uses the pace and just half-pulls it away to deep backward square leg for a boundary.

44.2SIX! Wow, what shot and Shubman Gill sprints into the 90s, just one shot away from a century. On a good length and angled into the pads, Gill just takes a step across to get inside the line and effortlessly whips it high and over deep mid-wicket fr a biggie.

43.2Bowled on a good length and around leg, Gill nudges it away off the pads through backward square leg for one more.
43.1Pitches the ball up around the fifth stump line and angles it across, KL Rahul drives it away wide of covers where the fielder makes a good stop. Just a single then.
42.6Good length, angled in at the stumps, punched off the front foot to mid on for an easy single. Bangladesh just keeping themselves in the mix for now but a couple of boundaries and it will all be blown away quickly.
42.5Full and wide now, mixing it up nicely here Tanzim, KL Rahul squeezes it away to point.
42.4Takes pace off the ball now and bowls it back of a length outside off, KL Rahul looks to force the cut in front of point but miscues it.

42.2Goes full and straight, gets a bit of reverse going as well, Gill jams it out to mid on.
42.1Oh, good fielding! Pitches the ball up on off, KL Rahul gets forward and pushes it to mid off and sets off for the single. Najmul Hossain Shanto is the fielder yet again who dives in and under-arms the throw at the bowler's end but just misses. That would have been a close call and the replays show that Rahul would have been short of his crease.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib is back on. He is 6-0-36-0 so far, with India needing 31 runs off 48 balls remaining.
41.6Slower delivery, bowled around leg stump and back of a length, Gill tries to make some room but not enough and has to just dab it down in front of point. Still, the boundaries are hard to come by.

41.3Lovely shot on the up but a good chase as well! Good length on middle, sitting up, Rahul shows the full face of the bat and just punches it on the up back past the bowler. Najmul Hossain Shanto chases it down from mid off and saves a couple of runs for his side.
41.2Pitches it up now and around off, KL backs away to go big downtown but miscues it badly and back to the bower.

40.6FOUR! Shubman Gill pounces on that one and spoils the figures for Rishad Hossain just a bit. Fractionally short over middle and leg, Gill rocks back and pulls it flat and well in front of square for a boundary. Both Bangladeshi spinners have now been bowled out.

Jaker Ali moves to his left a bit and gets underneath it but the ball bursts out through his hands as he looks to pouch it. How costly will it prove? Taskin is upset and is down on his haunches, with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto with a dull look on his face. This could have been a pricy wicket for Bangladesh. But a totally needless shot from KL Rahul there.
36.1Around off, on a good length, Gill guides it to deep third man for a single.
35.6Tossed up, around middle, KL Rahul lunges and nudges it with soft hands to the right of the bowler who tries to stop it but fails to collect it. The skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto makes a dive to his left from mid-wicket and stops the ball and restricts the batters for that single.

Drinks break! Time for the final official drinks break of the game and to be honest, no one would have expected things to get as close as they have right now. Bangladesh have done extremely well yet again to pull things back but it is still India's game as they have a set Shubman Gill at the crease and still have a couple of proper batters to come. 68 needed now off 15 overs and it will come down to whether Bangladesh can pick up quick wickets before the finishing line is in sight for India. Let's see how this one unfurls.

30.2Tossed up, full and on off, pushed away to cover.
KL Rahul walks in at number 6. Well, well a bit of a halt in the play as well. It seems like Shubman Gill had gone for a quick loo break or something after the wicket fell but he sprints back onto the field of play.
30.1OUT! HIGH UP IN THE AIR AND CAUGHT! Bangladesh keep chipping away with wickets and India are four down now! Rishad Hossain bowls it quite fuller and right in front of the stumps. Axar Patel sits down to access the slog sweep but does not quite get his bat under the ball and ends up top-edging it over the bowler. The ball hangs up in the night sky for a long, long time. Swirls and descends down around the mid-wicket region. Rishad Hossain calls for his catch, locks his eyes on the ball and snaffles a reverse cup catch right in above of his face. He completely mistimes it because of the lack of pace as his left hand gets off the handle. 24.6ANOTHER FIFTY FOR SHUBMAN GILL! A composed one from the right-hander. A wrong'un around off, on a length, Shubman Gill reads the googly off the hands and turns it wide of mid-wicket for a single. He has looked unfazed at one end and has paced his innings nicely without any risky shots so far. Quite uncharacteristic of him to get there in 69 deliveries, but he has adapted according to the need of the situation for his team.

Looking at Gill, Shreyas charges to get to the other end but the former sends him back with Iyer halfway through. NHS has a shy at the non-striker's end with Iyer out by a country mile. Turns away very sharply from the right-hander after pitching and skids a bit off the deck. Virat Kohli uses the depth of the crease as he goes back and across, creating room for himself to access the cut shot. But fails to keep it along the ground and offers a dolly of a catch to Soumya Sarkar at backward point. Rishad Hossain strikes gold for Bangladesh as Virat Kohli perishes on 22 (38).
