Zomato Ltd., the food delivery service, has received a Goods and Service Tax (GST) demand notice amounting to Rs 9.45 crore from the Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Taxes (Audit), Karnataka, according to a BSE exchange filing by the company, which it intends to appeal.
"We believe that we have a strong case on merits and the Company will be filing an appeal against the order before the appropriate authority", Zomato added.
The demand notice - inclusive on interest and penalty - is for FY20, based on the audit of GST returns.
Zomato has been at the receiving end of tax notices this year, with several notices on the company, including a Rs 23 crore penalty in March, for FY19. In April too, there was a Rs 11 crore tax demand order. Back in December, the company had faced a Rs 400 crore GST liability notice.
