In a massive blow to US President Donald Trump’s ambitious trade policy, a US federal court blocked the sweeping tariffs that were announced on April 2nd last month at a splashy White House ceremony.

The US Court of International Law said that the US President has overstepped his authority. The court also ruled that invoking emergency law does not mean that the US President has ‘unilateral’ jurisdiction over the trade matters. Even as the Trump administration appealed immediately against the ruling, all eyes were on how the mercurial president will react to the development.

While he didn’t issue a statement, Trump did reply in his own style – via memes! In a span of 60 minutes, Trump posted two memes on his social media platform Truth Social. In one photo, which showed his photo plastered on a hoarding, the message read – ‘PRESIDENT TRUMP WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING.’ In second meme, which was a black and white photo, the message was more direct. – ‘He’s on a mission from God & nothing can stop what is coming.’

The ruling came in a case that was filed on behalf of five small businesses. The plaintiffs say that they were suffering financially because the additional levies were impacting the bulk of imports. As Trump administration appealed against the ruling saying, "It is not for unelected judges to decide how to properly address a national emergency."
