Fresh COVID cases in the last 24 hours continued to hover under the 10,000 mark for the fourth day, down 18 per cent from the previous day at 6,561, even as active infections kept falling.
The new cases take the number of total confirmed tally in the country to 4,29,45,160.
A total of 142 COVID-19 deaths were also registered, taking the toll due to the infectious disease to 5,14,388. Kerala continued to report backlog deaths as part of its data reconciliation exercise registering 44 backlog deaths.
Kerala also registered the highest deaths at 52 followed by Karnataka (12) deaths in the 24-hour period. Since 1 April 2020, Maharashtra has not registered a single COVID19 death in a day.
The active COVID-19 caseload in the country now stands at 77,152—down nearly 10 per cent from the previous day and 0.18 per cent of the total confirmed cases. Active coronavirus cases in Kerala, which has the highest caseload in the country, are now under 25,000.
The daily test positivity rate in India stood at 0.74 per cent, while the rolling average of the weekly positivity rate came down to 0.99 per cent.
States cumulatively registered 14, 947 recoveries in the last 24 hours, raising total recoveries to 4,23,53,620 with the recovery rate reaching 98.62 per cent.
The health ministry said that a total of 77 crore tests have been conducted in the country so far of which 8,82,953 tests were carried out in the last 24 hours.
Overall, 178.02 crore vaccine doses have also been administered under the nationwide vaccination drive against coronavirus, as per details shared.
The Centre also said that it has supplied 178.48 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses to states so far of which 15.19 crore doses remain unutilised.
