Ice cream maker Vadilal Industries has appointed former HUL professional Himanshu Kanwar as the first CEO from outside the promoter family, for a period of five years with effect from September 29, 2025, a company filing said.
Shares of Vadilal were sharply higher after the announcement, rising by over 5 percent during the trade.
A former HUL executive and a consumer business professional, Himanshu Kanwar has held leadership roles across foods, beverages, and personal care divisions, and was the Business Head for Ice Creams at Hindustan Unilever. Kanwar was also appointed as the Global Brand Director for HUL’s South Asia Haircare portfolio. Kanwar is currently working as a General Manager at XTO10X.
"He combines classical brand-building expertise with new-age digital fluency, making him uniquely positioned to drive innovation, market transformation, and sustainable value creation," Vadilal Industries said in a statement.
The promoter family had settled the restructuring in March 2025, in order to separate management from ownership, and had stated the intention to identify and recommend the CEO, CFO and other key managerial personnel. "Any appointment, re-appointment and/or removal of independent directors and professional management personnel will require the unanimous consent of each of the Branches," the press statement had said in March 2025.
The move will enable the company to secure continued use of the brand, which will in turn enable it to "sustain its strong market presence and seamlessly meet consumer demand."
Vadilal's 41st Annual General Meeting (AGM) is scheduled on September 19, and the company recent said that it has plans for further expansion and modernization, along with greater presence in the quick commerce channel.
