PhillipCapital Conference on energy sustainability is taking place in Mumbai today. To talk about the theme Vineet Bhatnagar, MD & CEO of the company spoke to CNBC-TV18 from the sidelines of the conference.
Talking about the rationale for selecting this them, he said it is because of the expected GDP growth and the economic growth over the next decade. When one talks about growth for a country like India one cannot overlook the energy demand.
With that as the backdrop, the house has put forth an interesting discussion and debate the availability, accessibility and affordability related to a gas-fueled economy, which will now start playing a central role in terms of the percentage of usage of natural gas in energy basket for India.
The primary objective of this conference is to unleash the opportunity and challenges that lie ahead over a longer period of time rather than looking at the secondary market performance of some of these companies, said Bhatnagar.
In the conference, there is participation from companies like Mahanagar Gas, Gail, Petronet LNG, he said. However, for the investors benefit, the conference also wanted to cover the pain points relating to production or long-term contracts or alignment of domestic or international pricing for gases, marketing distribution etc.
From the discussions what came out was how New Delhi should be looking at this as a policy and look at gas in serous way.
