Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 are likely to open higher on October 29, tracking cues from GIFT Nifty trading around 24,387, a short while ago this morning.

Indian equity markets snapped a five-day losing streak and ended on a strong note on October 28, with the Nifty inching closer to 24,500, intraday, amid buying across sectors especially banking and metal stocks.

At close, the Sensex was up 602.75 points or 0.76 percent at 80,005.04, and the Nifty was up 158.35 points or 0.65 percent at 24,339.15.

GIFT Nifty (Gains)

The GIFT Nifty is trading firm, indicating a positive start for the day. Nifty futures were trading at 24,387 at 07:00 am IST.

Asian Equities (Mixed)

Asian indices were trading mixed Taiwan Weighted down a percent, while Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 and Topix were trading in the green.

US Equities (Up)

Wall Street closed higher on Monday ahead of a packed week of earnings from megacap companies and the final stretch before the Nov. 5 presidential election, while sentiment improved after energy supplies were not disrupted by weekend developments in the Middle East.

The S&P 500 gained 15.4 points, or 0.27%, to 5,823.52, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 48.58 points, or 0.26%, to 18,567.19. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 273.17 points, or 0.65%, to 42,387.57.

US Bond Yield (Down)

US 10-Year Treasury shed 42 bps at 4.26 percent, while US 2-Year Treasury fell 41 bps at 4.12 percent in the early trade on Tuesday.

Dollar Index (Flat)

The dollar eased a touch, though remained not too far from its recent high ahead of major U.S. data releases later in the week that could determine the path for Federal Reserve policy. The dollar index was little changed at 104.25. The dollar was headed for its best month in 2-1/2-years on Tuesday, as it eyed a 3.5% gain against a basket of currencies.

Asian currencies (Mixed)

The Asian currencies were trading mixed in the early trade on Tuesday with Indonesian Rupiah, Taiwan Dollar, China Renminbi led the losers.

Crude (Gains)

Oil prices gained some lost ground on Tuesday after falling 6% in the previous session after Saturday's retaliatory strike by Israel against Iran's military bypassed oil and nuclear facilities, not disrupting energy supplies.

The foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold equities worth Rs 3,228 crore on October 28, while domestic institutional investors bought equities worth Rs 1,400 crore on the same day.
