Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Nitin Gadkari have been fielded from Mumbai North and Nagpur constituencies, respectively for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024 according to BJP's second list of candidates released on March 13. The list contains 72 names, who will fight in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, which is likely to be conducted around April and May 2024.
Goyal, who is currently a Member of Parliament for Rajya Sabha from the state of Maharashtra, is also the leader of the Upper House. His mother Chandrakanta Goyal was elected thrice to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from Mumbai.
Gadkari, a two-time winner from Nagpur is set to create a hattrick if he wins again from this constituency.
Piyush Goyal, is the Union Commerce and Food Minister, while Gadkari heads the Ministry of Roads and Highways in BJP-led central government.
Piyush Goyal is credited for spearheading the world’s largest food security program, the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), and the flagship Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme to boost Make in India, Sitharaman is widely acknowledged for astutely managing the Indian economy during the years of the coronavirus pandemic.
Previously, he held charge of the Ministry of Railways, Finance, Corporate Affairs, Coal, Power, New & Renewable Energy, and Mines. Berfore joining the government, he was BJP's treasurer for four years.
Gadkari, on the other hand, is responsible for achieving the fastest highway construction rate, taking it from 3 km per day in 2014 to 30 km per day under the government's flagship Bharatmala scheme.
He formally entered politics in 1980 with a stint with the BJP youth wing Janata Yuva Morcha and later as BJP leader in Vidarbha.
On March 2, the BJP released the first set of names for 195 seats, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Apart from that the list had two ex-Chief Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Biplab Deb.
Modi will contest Lok Sabha elections from his traditional turf in Varanasi, Union Minister for Law and Justice Kiran Rijiju has been fielded from Arunachal West and Smriti Irani from the crucial constituency of Amethi.
