Samsung India has revealed the winning teams for the third edition of its 'Solve for Tomorrow 2024' competition. Eco Tech Innovator from Golaghat, Assam, was named the Community Champion in the School Track, while METAL from Udupi, Karnataka, won the Environment Champion title in the Youth Track, the company said in its press release.
Eco Tech Innovator developed a solution for providing clean drinking water and received a grant of Rs 25 lakh for further development. METAL focused on removing arsenic from groundwater and received Rs 50 lakh for incubation at IIT-Delhi. Each of the ten participating teams received Rs 1 lakh, and all members received certificates. Participants from the School Track received a Galaxy Watch Ultra, while those from the Youth Track received a Galaxy Z Flip6.
During the awards ceremony, JB Park, President and CEO of Samsung Southwest Asia, highlighted the creativity of all participants. The initiative aims to empower young people to tackle real-life issues with their innovative ideas, according to the company press release.
The top 10 teams pitched their projects to a Grand Jury, which included experts from Samsung and IIT-Delhi. Students submitted ideas focusing on themes such as community inclusion and environmental sustainability.
In addition to the main awards, two special awards were given: the Goodwill Award and the Social Media Champion Award. Preator VR and BioD received the Goodwill Award, while You and EnvTech won the Social Media Champion Award.
The 'Solve for Tomorrow' program, launched in the US in 2010, has expanded to 63 countries and engaged over 2.3 million young innovators globally. This year's competition saw participation from students in Tier 2 and 3 cities across India, addressing local challenges with technology-driven solutions.
