'Online hiring activity up 45% in February'

Online hiring activity registered a growth of 45 percent in February indicating improved sentiments in the recruitment space, with demand for senior management level witnessing significant uptrend, says Monster.com.

The Monster Employment Index (India) stood at 239 last month, up 45 percent over the corresponding month last year when the figure stood at 165.

"Our MEI for February with 45 percent growth reflects the improved sentiments in the online hiring space as compared to the elusive growth in February last year," Monster.com India Managing Director Sanjay Modi said.

"Initiatives like digital literacy schemes for additional rural households are important to transform the education ecosystem. Finally, training in the area of entrepreneurship across schools and colleges will further strengthen the whole startup ecosystem thriving in India," he added.

Among industries, the IT sector showed a robust 72 percent annual growth followed by education showing a progressive growth at 62 percent.

The geographic trend shows that Bengaluru led all monitored cities year-on-year with a 63 percent growth, followed by Mumbai (56 percent), Ahmedabad (54 percent) and Jaipur (50 percent).

With a 27 percent growth, Delhi-NCR continued to chart the most controlled growth among all monitored cities.

"When we look at the cities monitored in the index, Bengaluru continues to lead in moderate pace with a 63 percent increase. One of the contributing factors could be the increasing number of startups in the city," Modi said.

Among occupation groups monitored, the demand for senior Management professionals registered the highest growth at 81 percent followed by marketing and communications at 72 percent; sales and business development at 68 percent and software, hardware, telecom at 59 percent, the report said.
