Tata Trusts chairman Noel Tata explored the idea of a new leadership structure at Tata Sons before the plan hit a wall as some trustees registered their resistance, a report by Mint said on September 15.
Noel Tata discussed a structure with separate positions of chairman, chief executive officer and managing director (CEO and MD) and a deputy CEO for the Tata group holding company, the newspaper said.
However, the idea could not move ahead as some of the trustees didn’t agree with the proposal, the paper said.
Currently, N Chandrasekaran is the chairman of Tata Sons. Moreover, Noel Tata wanted Chandrasekaran to continue as the non-executive chairman following the end of his tenure in 2027, Mint said, adding that trustees want a third term for Tata Sons chief.
Moneycontrol could not independently verify the report.
Noel Tata, who replaced Ratan Tata as after his death, leads Tata Trusts, which has a majority stake in the holding company.
