Veteran corporate leader Nitin Paranjpe of Hindustan Unilever has been appointed as an independent director on the board of Indian IT giant Infosys. The appointment will come into effect from January 01, 2024, Infosys said in a statement along with the company’s fiscal second quarter’s earnings release.

“This appointment is based on the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee of the Infosys Board, and is for a period of five years, subject to the approval of shareholders,” said Infosys.

Infosys reported a marginal rise in its net profit for Q2 FY4.

Nitin Paranjpe is currently the non-executive chairman of HUL, and is also Chief People Officer and Chief Transformation Officer at Unilever PLC.

Paranjpe joined HUL in 1987, and has held various roles in marketing and sales in the company. He was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer, India, and Executive Vice President for Unilever South Asia in April 2008. He has also held the post of Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Unilever.

Paranjpe holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA in Marketing from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management in Mumbai.

Nandan Nilekani, Chairman of Infosys, said, "Nitin brings with him global business perspectives and deep insights into matters of leadership and business transformation.”

D Sundaram, Lead Independent Director and Chairperson of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee, Infosys, meanwhile said that Paranjpe’s expertise in business operations and human resource management , having been the CEO of HUL and COO, CHRO of the global corporation, Unilever, will be a great asset to the Board and management.

As per information available on Infosys website, its board has eight members. Besides, Nilekani and Sundaram, Salil Parekh, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the company, Michael Gibbs, Bobby Parikh, Chitra Nayak, Govind Iyer and Helene Auriol Potier.
